Denise E. Chambliss

Denise Chambliss is a member of Garcia & Gurney's General Civil Litigation practice group. As an experienced trial lawyer, her practice is concentrated in the areas of business, real estate, intellectual property, employment, and probate/trust. She has represented both plaintiffs and defendants before all Courts of the State of California and the U.S. District Court, Northern California. Her trial practice covers the Bay Area counties and the Tri-Valley area, including Alameda County, Contra Costa County, Santa Clara County, San Francisco County, and San Joaquin County.

Ms. Chambliss' practice emphasizes contract disputes, business fraud and tort claims, corporate and partnership disputes, unfair competition, trade secret misappropriation, commercial and residential real estate disputes, broker and agent matters, commercial leasing, and construction defects. She also represents and advises employers and employees on employment issues, including wage and overtime claims, sexual harassment, discrimination, and wrongful termination actions. In addition, she has experience in probate/trust litigation, including defense of trustees accused of trust mismanagement and/or breach of fiduciary duties.

Education

Ms. Chambliss is a graduate of the University of Houston (B.A. 1992) and South Texas College of Law, Houston (J.D. 1996) where she served as an Assistant Editor for the South Texas Law Review, and was a member of the Appellate Advocacy. She was a student intern to Magistrate Marcia Crone of the U.S. District Court, Southern District of Texas (1996) and a student extern to Judge Patricia Hancock of the 113th Texas District Court, Harris County, Houston (1996).

Professional Activities

Her professional credentials include the California State Bar (Member, Litigation Section); United States District Court for the Northern District of California; United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit; and Texas State Bar (Ret.).

Ms. Chambliss is currently serving as the 2010 Chair of the Trial Section of the Alameda County Bar Association. She is a member of the Alameda County Bar Association, the Contra Costa County Bar Association, the Santa Clara County Bar Association and the Eastern Alameda County Bar Association.

Ms. Chambliss is a Past President of the Business Networking International (BNI) Livermore chapter, an organization promoting the success of local businesses. She is also Past Treasurer and a current Advisory Board member for The Law Center, a nonprofit agency assisting Contra Costa County residents with access to pro bono legal representation. She is also an alumnus of the 2007-2008 "Leadership Pleasanton" program.

Judgments and Awards

  • March 2009 judgment against corporation and its alter ego for clients on fraud and misrepresentations arising from business purchase, Alameda County Superior Court; judgment affirmed by the Court of Appeals and review denied by the California Supreme Court
  • April 2008 judgment for commercial landlord after trial of unlawful detainer case based on non-payment of rent, Alameda County Superior Court
  • January 2008 binding arbitration award for commercial landlord pertaining to landlord-tenant lease dispute and tort nuisance, JAMS, Walnut Creek, Calif.
  • November 2007 binding arbitration award for clients with residential construction defect claims, American Arbitration Association, San Jose, Calif.

Jenny K. Hong

Over the past ten years of her practice, business litigation associate Jenny K. Hong has represented high-technology companies, start-ups, insurance companies, professional business entities, and retail clients in a wide range of litigation matters.  While she focuses her practice on business disputes including real estate, leasing, construction, collections, employment, unfair business practices, business ownership, and claims of banks and financial institutions, she also works on corporate transactional and intellectual property matters.

In addition to her attorney license, Ms. Hong currently holds a California Real Estate Broker's License and a California Property and Casualty Broker's License.  She is also a certified Arbitrator for the Better Business Bureau.

Ms. Hong earned her Bachelor's of Science degree from University of California at Davis and her law degree from the University of San Francisco, School of Law, where she served as Admissions Committee Chair and as Vice President of the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association. Her recent community involvement includes serving on the Legislative Committee for the San Ramon Valley Council, as well as serving as Vice President of Legislative Advocacy on the executive board of the PTA. Currently, she is serving as Vice President of Site Council, a governing board for a local school. Ms. Hong also works as a volunteer with young children and is an active member of her church.
